Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Today we meditate on Isaiah 35:1-10 and Matthew 11:2-11
A simple prayer for coming light
We cherish the hope
and peace in our hearts,
those flames burning bright
against the cold of the night.
By their light we can see
the faces of our sisters
and brothers around the fire.
And though darkness
be all around, pressing in,
our flickering light still holds.
In the company of our people,
we have solace.
In a friendly touch,
we have connection.
In our generosity,
we have blessing.
In our songs and carols,
we have hope.
In shared tables,
we have laughter.
In a kind word,
we have warmth.
In shared burdens,
we have lighter loads.
These simple joys are free to give,
but precious to receive.
They bear us up on the journey.
Help us to give them.
But let us not forget
that these simple joys
come rushing from
the Wellspring Himself.
Ours is a joyous faith,
growing out of an original goodness
which evil has only briefly dimmed.
The joys we taste now are but appetizers
of the feast to come.
For one day all will be healed!
All made new and splendid again.
The night will end at long last,
and a glorious dawn
come washing over us
with light, melody, and laughter.
Even now, heaven's full-hearted joy
strains like a flood at the dam,
longing to meet us.
It waits only for the Master's word,
soon to come.
Blessed be the day of its arrival.
Let the dark be ended
and this true joy rain down!
We long for it, Lord.
Unleash the river of life!
silence is kept
Until that day comes,
We stoke the fire
with simple acts of joy
to ward away the night.
Yet we live with heaven's eyes,
longing and searching
for the deep, fulsome joys
of the coming dawn,
even as they glint
and shimmer in the dusk.
In your mercy, Lord,
hear our prayer.
Amen
