Midweek Mindfulness ~ Advent 2, 2022

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
Let us take a moment to sit and rest with Jesus, the spring of living water
We offer you a song and a simple prayer

Today we meditate on Isaiah 11:1-10 and Psalm 46

A simple prayer for trust in God’s heart

Even if it takes a lifetime,
we will cling to the promise,
eyes on the horizon.
One day you will come.

We cherish the hope in our hearts,
that bright flame burning
against the cold.

But sister, there is still
so much wrong with the world.
At this moment,
soldiers are being trained,
shells are being made,
wails and woes pierce the night
in Canada and abroad.
The wealthy and powerful
still ignore the cause of the poor.
The widows are undefended,
the orphans left alone,
the wanderers left roofless.
Surely all the prophet's talk
of a peaceable kingdom
and vegetarian lions
and an end to war
is a pipe dream,
fool's gold in a hard world
of soot and dust and ash.

I hear you, my brother.
Yet Christian hope is not
built on trust in our circumstances,
or in what the wealthy and powerful
choose to do with their strength.
Our peace is not found
in armies or laws or policies,
or even the absence of suffering.

But where then can we find peace?
It isn't for sale, I checked.

Brother, we find our peace
and our hope in our trust in God.
Though it sounds trite to say,
the ancient truths remain.
It is in His faithfulness to His promises,
in His enduring love for us,
and in our identity in Him
that we find true peace.
Though the earth pass away,
and the mountains fall
into the heart of the sea,
and all be lost to ruin,
these ancient truths would remain.
God alone is our Rock,
an ever-present help in times of trouble.
Let Him be your refuge,
and you will know peace
that the world cannot steal or destroy.

I want to believe . . .
but the dark is yet so thick.
I cannot see it, sister.

Then we will wait for Him together,
here in the dark, you and I.

Come Lord Jesus.

Amen
