Midweek Mindfulness ~ October 5th 2022

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
Let us take a moment to sit and rest with Jesus, the spring of living water
We offer you a song and a simple prayer

The accompanier will pray the whole prayer with you
You are invited to join in praying the purple italicized words with them

Today we meditate on Isaiah 55:1-5, 1 Corinthians 10:16-17, and Luke 14:15-24

A simple prayer for the feast

The feast table of God
is a joyful and glorious place.
The aroma of fresh bread
and aged wine beckons.
The fruits of the field
are piled high with ripened plenty.
Steaming soups, roast veggies,
and all manner of main courses
cover a table richly laden,
prepared by our most generous of hosts.

We long to join you, God,
at your heavenly banquet,
the wedding feast of heaven and earth.

Our fellow guests dazzle the eye
with colour and custom,
greeting one another
with laughter and song,
a living symphony
of nation and culture,
as broad as the palette,
but somehow united on the canvas.
There is somehow room for all,
just as there is somehow a place for us.

We are humbled to even be invited.
Certainly we are no one of any importance.
The servants handed us an invitation
with glad faces, but we barely believed them.
We come in to see the spread,
overawed by such wasteful generosity.
Who is all this for?

It is all for you, my child.
Come in and eat.
Come and drink your fill
of the Water of Life.
Come, sit next to me
and we will begin the feast.

Who am I to sit beside you
in such a shining company?
Surely you are mistaken.
I will find a more suitable place
further down.

Who are you?
All these long years together,
and still you ask?
You are the reason for it all, my dear.
I spun the world on my wheel
for the chance that you
would seek my face and know me,
my precious, precious child.
You are my Beloved,
and nothing will part you from me.
Come and join me,
for all things are now ready.
