Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

A simple prayer for thanksgiving

You are a God of mighty mystery,
of stars and signs and secrets
from before the world was made.

Hallelujah to the Lord of heaven,
uncreated but forever creating,
a God of extraordinary imagination.

But you are also a God of simple things,
bringing new life and meaning
into our everyday moments.
In your deepening light,
even a cup or table,
a towel or basin
are made holy.

Hallelujah to the Lord of earth,
intimate and familiar,
a God of ordinary people.

This week we come in gratitude
for your many blessings.
Thank you for food shared,
a harvest table to gather around,
bridging differences and pain
with beautiful smells and tastes.

Thank you for our tables, Lord.
Bless them with delight in each other's presence.

Thank you for hosts,
graciously breaking their days,
their hearts, and their bodies
to serve those they love.

Thank you for those who welcome in.
Bless them with rest.

Thank you for guests,
travelling from far and wide
to reach our doors,
filling their unique,
precious seat at the table.

Thank you for those who come.
Bless them with love given and received.

Thank you for those forlorn,
who meet such holidays
with anxiety or loneliness.
They too are precious and loved,
never forgotten or dismissed by you.

Thank you for all whom we meet.
Help us to invite them in.

Thank you for your love,
Father of us all, head of this family.
When we gather, let it always be
in your generous Name.
Jesus, help us to become
the broken bread, the shed wine
of your body, given for all.
Spirit, lead us to those unexpected
guests or conversations,
that living water would fill
our houses and our words.

Blessed be God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
our source of life, hope, and love.

Help our tables to embody what we profess;
heavenly truths embodied by food with family,
an aroma of peace and grateful joy
that would bring you delight.

Thank you.

Amen
