Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
Let us take a moment to sit and rest with Jesus, the spring of living water
We offer you a song and a simple prayer

Today we meditate on Luke 20:27-38

A simple prayer for peace

We stand in solemn silence,
surveying the fields of
blood-red poppies once more.
The faces of those we knew
come flashing to mind;
young men and women
caught up in the titanic
struggle of nations at war,
shipping out with courage,
love, or duty in heart.

We treasure the peace and
freedom they bought for us, God.
Let every day we live
in homes and families
untroubled by former evils
be received as a gift.
Their sacrifice lives on.

We stand in solemn silence,
lamenting the terrible need
for soldiers at all, however
brave or noble they be.
How the earth cries out with blood,
soaked by thousands of years of
brother against brother,
sister against sister,
father against father,
mother against mother,
child against child.
How the sin of Cain
has followed us,
hounding our steps.

Free us from bloodshed, Father!
Take our hearts of bronze
or iron and recast them with flesh.
Fill us with peace, love, and hope.
Hear the cry of the widow!
The wailing of Ukrainian orphans!
Deliver us, Father.
Bring your justice and power
to end all human destruction,
breaking the spear and
shattering the rifle!
Let the day of your coming be soon.

We stand in solemn silence,
trusting in your mighty promises.
That death—even a valiant
death on a battlefield—
does not get the last word.
Your love is stronger than the grave,
and all who desire it
will find Resurrection Life
in your saving Name.
One day soon the trumpet will sound
Not the Last Post,
but the first notes
of the New Creation.
And in a flash,
in a twinkling of the eye,
the dead will find new life.
Swords will be beaten to ploughshares
and bayonets to garden shears,
for nations will go to war no more.

O happy day!
Let it be soon,
God of all history.
Bring our wayward kings
and petty tyrants to heel.
Bring forth your river of life
to heal our bruised
and broken nations.
Wash the blood away.
Wash the pain away.
Wash the curse away.
Let it be soon.

In your mercy, Lord,
hear our prayer.

Amen
