Midweek Mindfulness ~ November 23rd 2022

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
Let us take a moment to sit and rest with Jesus, the spring of living water
We offer you a song and a simple prayer

Today we meditate on Ephesians 1:15-23 and Colossians 1:15-17

A simple prayer to enter God’s time

We think of time
with clocks and alarms,
wages or shifts.
Appointments and calendars
structure our days.
Deadlines and due dates
press for results.
The clock is a master
without mercy.

Help us to navigate
the man-made corridors of time
while we must.
Yet help us to resist
the all consuming tick,
the never-ending tock
of ceaseless busyness,
a time defined only
by productivity or progress.

The church has a different way
of seeing and inhabiting time.
A year that starts in expectation,
looking for a coming Saviour,
not a hollow silver ball in New York.
Christmas comes, and with it
our great hope for the world.

Turn us once more this season
to your precious arrival, Jesus.
Soon we will gather in awe
as you lay in the straw.

With Lent we mourn
for a broken world,
repenting the sullied part
we continue to play in it.
We cheer your arrival in Jerusalem
and watch with horror
as you die one more time
to bring us home again.

Help us to carry your death
and resurrection with us
everywhere we go.
We are sinners saved,
no longer enslaved.

On Pentecost you come in fire,
to ignite and drive us
out into the world,
bearers of the Gospel all.
Your Spirit goes with us
through highs and lows,
breathing life from within.

Lead us out into your world,
to our homes and work
as the aroma of Christ.
We are a light to the nations,
the first signs of new creation.

And now, the year ends
as we kneel before you,
the King of Kings.
You have traded your manger
for a radiant throne,
built on love and gilded with peace.
Where once you emptied yourself,
becoming as nothing,
a mere man, a servant,
dying the lowest of deaths,
now the Word is restored.
You wear the Name
that is above every name,
that at its glorious sound
every knee should bow,
whether in heaven above
or on earth below.

Let heaven and earth receive their king!
He will reign forever and ever
with a Kingdom that will never fail.
Hosanna in the highest!
Glory to the Father, our Light!
Glory to the Son, our Saviour!
Glory to the Spirit, our Life!
Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come!

Amen
