Waterloo Region Home Share

“Community Justice Initiatives (CJI) is grateful to the support of Trinity United Church for our Waterloo Region Home Share with Youth program.

Youth transitioning to independence from the care of Family and Children’s Services of Waterloo Region are struggling to afford safe and decent housing. The lack of affordable housing has meant that many of these youth have had additional struggles in what is already a challenging transition.

Your funding is supporting CJI to provide home sharing, which is a simple and creative way to create affordable housing. Home Sharing is a cooperative process that offers mediation and conflict resolution support to people willing to share space in their homes with youth who are in transition.

We were able to hire a part-time staff person beginning in October. We have created referral processes, flyers, and a video explaining the process. We have already met with youth ready and willing to be a part of home sharing, and now we are ready to recruit home providers who are willing to share a space in their homes. We are excited to share a story with you, our supporters at Trinity United, once we have people willing to share their experiences.”
