Today we meditate on John 16:12-15

A simple prayer to contemplate the Trinity

When Abram heard you call,
and left it all behind to follow ...

When Moses stood before your fire
and asked for your name ...

When David danced before you
and brought the ark home to rest ...

How much did they know of you?
Did they have you all figured out?

Meet us here, triune God,
in our simple desire to be with you.
To follow, to ask, to dance.


There seems to always be more with you.
We never reach the end
of your hills and valleys, God.

Show us more of you, God.

First we knew the Father,
Dreamer, Creator, and Artist,
the great Gardener,
the Holy King,
our Lord and Life.

Praise God,
from whom all blessings flow


Next we met your Son,
Saviour, Redeemer, and Rescuer,
the Suffering Servant,
the Lamb of God,
our Living Hope.

Praise God,
all creatures here below


Then we received your Spirit,
Counsellor, Sustainer, and Advocate,
the guidance of the Word,
the Shepherd's Voice,
our fire and friend

Praise God,
above ye heavn'ly host


You are an eternal community
caught up in an everlasting dance,
holding out a hand for us to join in.
More than we can fathom,
yet still within reach.

Doctrines may be complex,
but your heart,
your voice,
your breath on our faces,
that is simple enough.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above ye heavenly hosts
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost!
