Midweek Mindfulness ~ June 22nd 2022
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
Let us take a moment to sit and rest with Jesus, the spring of living water
We offer you a song and a simple prayer

Today we meditate on 1 Kings 19:1-15
A simple prayer for when we doubt our faith
How often do we come to you
like the prophets of old?
Exhausted from obedience
that has led them through
difficulties and dangers,
where you and you alone
were their one hope and shelter?
Their towering example of zeal
seems to conquer all fear
and prudent pragmatism.
Not very often, Lord.
More often we are zealous
for comfort and convenience
than for your Name.
How easily our faith
becomes a hobby, a pastime,
a weekly commitment
instead of a lifelong
and wholehearted pursuit.
We are not worthy of you, God.
Your endless, bountiful love
and devotion puts our thin faiths
to shame, again and again.
How can your love for us never fail,
when we so often fall short?
But with our head in our hands,
lament on our lips,
we feel your touch on our chins,
lifting us back up to you.
There is no hurricane wind
or stone-splitting quake
or heavenly fire.
There is only your gentle whisper
meeting us in the silence.
I do not expect or demand perfection
from you, my child.
I understand your wavering,
your fear and half-heartedness,
and do not see these things
as your defining features.
It is not the quality of your faith
that accomplishes anything;
rather it is my strong and sure
heart for you that sustains us.
More than anything else,
you are my beloved.
Your daily choice
to abide in that truth,
safe within my arms,
gives me great delight in you.
Lift up your head, child,
and seek me anew.
I have much yet to show you.
