Midweek Mindfulness ~ August 10th 2022

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
Let us take a moment to sit and rest with Jesus, the spring of living water
We offer you a song and a simple prayer

A Song

A Prayer

Take a moment to sit with Jesus in silence

When you're ready, let's pray the following prayer with Him
If you want a sister or brother to pray with you, click the bar below.
The accompanier will pray the whole prayer with you
You are invited to join in praying the purple italicized words with them

Today we meditate on Luke 12:32-40

A simple prayer for true treasure

Jesus, you know our hearts too well.
You see the sparkle
reflected in our eyes
from the next shiny thing
to add to our hoard.
You hear the blood pressure
spike in our chests as you say
"Sell your possessions
and give to the poor."
A clamour of justifications
rise to defend us,
but your words remain,
anchored by the stubborn
spiritual logic of our condition;
"for where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also."

Silence

What is our treasure, Jesus?
And where is our heart?

I fear we don't want answers
to such piercing questions, Lord.

The moment we turn our gaze inward,
we see the telltale thorns
of greed and self-centredness
choking all our good intentions
with the hard reality of our plans,
decisions, and priorities.
We find that we are
much more skilled at collecting
and keeping than giving away.

These gadgets and gizmos,
houses and cars,
accounts and indulgences
so easily snare our hearts,
bending them inwards
to a crippling love of self.

Save us from the golden grip
of earthly treasure, Father!
Fix our eyes on people,
not new or shiny packages.
Root us in relationship,
not bank statements.
Focus us on justice,
not numbing entertainment.
Open our hands to give,
not to hoard or snatch.
Give us trust in you,
that even if we gave it all away,
you would still care for us
with more than we need.

You are more sure and steady
than the stock market.
More precious than gold or rubies.
More lasting than trust funds.
More worthy of our hearts.
In you we will never go bankrupt
or be evicted; in you
we will always have enough.

Help us to trust your abundant goodness
enough to release our grip on what we own.
With empty hands we reach out
and take your waiting hand,
the source of true security and peace.

We join our voices to Frances Havergal,
who leads us today finding
our true treasure in you.

Take my life and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee.
Take my moments and my days;
let them flow in endless praise,
let them flow in endless praise.

Take my hands and let them move
at the impulse of thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
swift and beautiful for thee,
swift and beautiful for thee.

Take my voice and let me sing
always, only, for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
filled with messages from thee,
filled with messages from thee.

Take my silver and my gold;
not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
every power as thou shalt choose,
every power as thou shalt choose.

Take my will and make it thine;
it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne,
it shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour
at thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee,
ever, only, all for thee.

Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

Amen
