Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

Today we meditate on Matthew 9:35-10:23

A simple prayer for the summer fields

The harvest is plentiful,
but the laborers are few;
therefore ask the Lord of the Harvest
to send out laborers into his harvest.

It is your harvest, Lord,
and it is still plentiful.
The fields are green and full,
the fruit is heavy on the bough,
the rows and trellises are thick.

Send us out to harvest, God.
Send us into your fields!
Let it be now;
let it be this summer.

Wherever these weeks
of glorious greens, bright blues,
and shining golds take us,
let it be for Your glory, Lord.

As we rest, let us remember
Your Goodness and Hope,
that our identity is not found
on resumes or in toil,
but in You and Your Name.

As we feast with family
around the BBQ, patio, or firepit,
let us soak up and share
Your abundance and generosity.

As we serve at camp,
let Your Spirit fall on our cabins,
groups, and staff teams,
that these kids might meet You
and learn to know You better.

As we delight in Creation
on beaches, cottage porches,
restful walks, or gentle waves,
let us savour Your majesty and artistry.

As we worship with our neighbouring churches,
let us encounter You in new ways,
building up the bonds
of sister and brotherhood in our city.

As we meet strangers and friends,
let our lives move and dance and sing
with your unforced rhythms of grace.

As we slow down enough to linger,
to dwell,
to be still,
speak into our silences
and give us what we need.

As the opportunities arise,
let us invite others to taste
the beautiful kingdom of Christ,
of which all the joys and delights
of summer are a sign and a foretaste.

Let this be a rich and abundant summer, God.
Full of plenty, freedom, and joy,
brimming over with the Life that is true Life.
Send us into the Garden to savour and serve
Your harvest in this season
with readiness, rest, and renewal.
