Midweek Mindfulness ~ June 14th 2023
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
Let us take a moment to sit and rest with Jesus, the spring of living water
We offer you a song and a simple prayer

Today we meditate on John 17:20-26
A simple prayer to be one
My children, come to me.
Sit here on my knee awhile.
Coming, Abba!
(space for the sharing of everyday concerns and joys)
My children, I love you so much.
And I love to hear your stories and needs.
Tell me, what do you think
that I want for you most of all?
Hmm . . . perhaps, to be happy?
Happiness will come and go, my daughter.
It is a gift for the long road together.
Enjoy it while it lingers. What else?
Maybe . . . to be well?
To have good health or peace?
Both are good things, my son,
but you will have no guarantee of either.
In this precious world of mine
you will still have trouble to face
and an imperfect body to care for.
Perhaps then, to be wise
or kind or generous?
To be good people
that reflect who You are, Abba?
We know that You are good.
A good answer, daughter.
I do want that for you,
just not most of all.
My love for you does not rest
on the strength or integrity
of your character, but on mine.
Well, what about doing good works
in the world around us?
To bring healing, hope, or help
to those that need it?
This too is good, my son.
The world does need healing,
and I want you to help me heal it.
But there is yet something else
which runs deeper still
than all these good things
which you have both named.
Do you know what it is?
Just tell us, Abba!
What is it??
We have it right now, dear ones.
More than anything else,
I want to be with you.
Does this surprise you?
As joy and sorrow find you,
as health and sickness come and go,
as peace or strife surround you,
as you learn how to resemble me better,
and as the world rises and falls . . .
I want you by my side.
One day, this alone will endure,
on the day the trumpets sound
and my kingdom crests the horizon;
that you are with me
and I Am with you.
This is Life itself, here together.
This is my great desire.
