Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!

A simple prayer for the coming King
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you;
We see you come in
through clamouring gates,
the head of a growing river
of men and women
walking in your footsteps.
Uncertain, but following
wherever you lead,
even into divisive public spectacle.
You are here to make a holy ruckus,
and your city responds around you.
The streets are pulsing
with hope of all kinds;
Hosanna to the Son of David!
Righteous and victorious is he,
humble and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
Surely this is our deliverer, some cry.
This is the one who will save us!
The one who will destroy our enemies!
The one who will restore us
to our former power and strength!
I will take away the chariots from Ephraim
and the war horses from Jerusalem,
and the battle bow will be broken.
But we have agendas, Jesus!
Come and fulfill them!
We have great plans for you, God!
We want your sword! Not your peace.
Your power! Not your weak meekness.
Quick, someone find this man a proper horse!
He will proclaim peace to the nations.
His rule will extend from sea to sea
and from the River to the ends of the earth.
As He comes, the River follows.
Life is in His wake,
stronger than sickness or injury,
division, feuds, and loss,
more real than darkness or despair.
Calmly, He enters into our chaos
and offers us Life on His terms;
a River bringing everything
that it touches back to life.
The Lord their God will save
his people on that day
as a shepherd saves his flock.
They will sparkle in his land
like jewels in a crown.
He comes to save, yes,
but not with weapons of war.
The King of Life has come
to challenge Death itself,
to release His people from Sin's power
for ever and ever.
Death trembles at His approach,
with fear and with anticipation.
It waits for Him, biding its time,
coiled up on the hill of the skull,
leering down hungrily,
conspiring with Sin.
Perhaps He has overstepped this time . . .
An opportunity approaches . . .
He has stepped into our snare
with open arms!
But with open arms
He will soon be raised,
and our great victory won.
Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!
Amen
