Today we meditate on Psalm 23

A simple prayer for the sheep

The LORD is my shepherd,
I shall not want.

Teach us how to be your sheep,
o best of shepherds.
In You we will find
abundance of Life.

He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul.

Teach us how to find our rest,
our strength and sustenance
at Your side.
Save us from busyness,
from notifications, from ceaseless noise.
Give us the stillness
and the quiet to find You,
though we find it strange at first.

He guides me in paths of righteousness
for His Name's sake.

Teach us the Good Way
and help us to walk in it.
Use your crook if need be;
We are ever prone to wander.
Let our lives bring honour
to Your Name instead of ours.

Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for You are with me;
Your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You have overcome the world
and have defanged Death.
At Your side, the worst
the world has to offer
is no threat to us.
Life is already victorious.
Teach us to trust You
when our lives get dark,
when the lights go out.
You are still there.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.

Teach us the love
that meets enemies with hospitality,
generosity, and grace.
Help us set the table for all.

You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

Teach us how to receive
your generous gifts.
You never stop giving.
Let us share the abundant
overflow with reckless love.
There is no scarcity in You.

Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

Help us to bear Your Name,
Your Goodness and Love,
with us everywhere we go,
that in our company
people would catch the aroma of heaven.
Hallelujah to our glorious Father,
from whom every family in heaven
and on earth derives its name.
You are truly the LORD of 'hosts,'
for in Your waiting house
Joy will dance like the wind,
Peace will quench like mountain streams,
and Love's light will never set.
The home we were made for
will welcome us in with everlasting arms,
and we will know You
face to face at last.

Come, Lord Jesus.
