A simple prayer for health
What a wondrous,
exasperating gift
is the human body;
our lifelong companion
for good and ill.
Thank you for this precious gift,
each uniquely made.
Thank you for our share
of youth and vigour,
beauty and strength,
wisdom and memory,
all carried by this frame.
Lord, you know it hasn't
been an easy ride.
Life is a rough road,
and we have the dents
and chipped paint to prove it.
It seems we're always
taking it back into the shop
for some repair or other.
Thank you that our humble
but marvelous bodies
are not beneath your notice, God.
You care when we are sick,
for you want us to be hale
and healthy and whole again.
Though sickness does teach
unwelcome but powerful lessons,
you are not its source.
You are always for our good,
waiting with us by the bed
until we recover.
For those among us
whose tired bodies are sick right now,
we pray, Father.
Rest your healing hand upon them,
Father of mercy.
For those among us
whose struggle with health
has been long and bitter,
we pray, Father.
Relieve them of their burden,
Lord of Life.
For those among us
with no one to care for them,
we pray, Father.
Bring them a comforter,
Faithful One.
For those who are sick,
but don't know it yet,
we pray, Father.
Shine the unwelcome diagnosis
that will prevent further harm,
Wise Counsellor.
And for those who are well,
we pray, Father.
Recall them to their duty
to care for others,
especially the sick,
Good Good Father.
We pray all this with
loud hearts but open hands,
laying all our passion at your feet,
safe within your tender care.
Let your will to heal be done.
Use us as you desire
to bring your restoration,
Father of Lights.
In your mercy, Lord,
hear our prayer.
Amen
