A simple prayer for growing with the Gardener

All around us the world is in bloom.
Daffodils and tulips dot our gardens.
Dogwoods wear creamy silks while
Redbuds are clothed in the finest pinks.
Lilacs perfume the neighbourhood.
And all around are bright, vibrant greens.
Winter has retired for another year
And spring life has returned!

Praise the Lord of Life!
The dying and living King!
The Gardener and the Wellspring
who sings every good thing
into bud, bloom, and blossom!

May we be as receptive
to sun and shower
as the plants around us.
For the Gardener approaches us
yet again this spring.
With tenderness and humility
He offers to inspect and care for
Our leaves, boughs, and fruit.
Will we let Him approach us?

Come to us, Jesus.
We remind ourselves
that though you carry
pruners as well as fertilizer,
you are faithful and true,
worthy of our trust.
We remember that you alone
know what is best for us.

Tend to us as one of your creations.
Water us with the river of life.
Nurture us with good, rich soil.
Shine on us with your light.
That we might sink our roots
ever more deeply into your Spirit,
the life that is true life!

Shape us into seedlings
of that heavenly tree,
whose leaves can heal the nations.
Let the perfume of your kingdom
mingle with the very air we breath,
that wherever we have been planted,
all who pass by would notice
the beautiful smell of resurrection
at work in us.

You are the Great Gardener
and we are your handiwork,
more beautiful in your eyes
than any tree or flower.

Blessed Jesus,
shape us as you desire,
pruning us as needed,
that the fruit of our lives
might feed others
and reveal your beauty!
Tend to us always.
We are yours.

In your mercy, Lord
Hear our prayer.

Amen
