A simple prayer for your kingdom to come

Blessed are we who see
our great need for you, Father.
When we come to the end
of our spirit's strength,
we find you waiting.

Let your kingdom come

Blessed are we who weep
for those we have lost,
for all we haven't done or been,
for scars old and new.
We find your pierced hand
on our shoulders.

Let your kingdom come

Blessed are we who kneel,
at peace before you.
Those who meet your embrace
without pretension or pride,
trusting your tender hands
with our flawed hearts
have already found all that matters.

Let your kingdom come

Blessed are we who long
for what you long for,
who want to have our dreams
and hopes remade by you.
We will find your Way
quenching our thirst.

Let your kingdom come

Blessed are we who look
on other pilgrims with grace,
who race to offer aid
instead of sitting in judgement.
When we offer an open hand,
we love like you love.

Let your kingdom come

Blessed are we who seek
above all things to know you,
the timbre of your voice,
the lines of laughter in your face.
We find you when we seek you
with our whole hearts.

Let your kingdom come

Blessed are we who intervene,
who put our comfort or safety aside
to end the violence and chaos
and splintering all around us.
Those who build instead of destroy,
who mend instead of tear,
these show your family resemblance.

Let your kingdom come

Blessed are we who suffer
for the Name
that confounds and challenges
all human evil and corrupt power.
Those who choose to follow
your Way and your Truth
despite setbacks, insults,
pain, and sacrifice
will find your Life,
in this age and the next.
We will soon find ourselves
in the mighty company
of your everlasting family.

In us

and around us,

Let your kingdom come.

Amen
