Midweek Mindfulness ~ November 8th 2023

Sadly, this will be our final Midweek Mindfulness together.

It has been my honour to pray with you these many months.
I hope these words and songs have helped to lift your hearts
to the LORD in the middle of hectic or calm weeks alike.

I know your many words of encouragement
about this project certainly lifted me.

Wherever you go next, I pray for Jesus to be close beside you.
He is the well of living water.

Let us gather round Him once more together.

Today we meditate on Jesus’ promises in the Gospel of John

The Great I AM

I Am the bread of life.
Whoever comes to me
will never go hungry
and whoever believes in me
will never be thirsty.

We are hungry, Jesus.
We consume so much
but are left so empty.
We long for a brighter future,
for hope and certainty.
We are thirsty, Jesus.
We are parched for stability.
We long for the true water
that will quench our spirits.
Feed us with Truth.
Slake us with Life.

I Am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me
will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.

We need Your light, Jesus!
Show us the way to You,
further up and further in!
When darkness shrouds and clouds,
shine Your light upon us!
By You we see all things clearly.
Guide us to You on lit paths.

Very truly I tell you,
I Am the gate for the sheep . . .
Whoever enters through me will be saved.
They will come in and go out
and find pasture.

How we need Your good pasture, Jesus!
We have looked elsewhere
but found only waste and wilderness
We need You to save our wayward feet
from wandering off yet again.
Keep us in Your good fold,
safe in Your care.

I Am the good shepherd.
The good shepherd
lays down his life for the sheep . . .
I know my sheep
and my sheep know me.

Blessed are You, our Good Shepherd!
In You we have found rest;
by Your side we have hope and peace.
You have given Your very life for us,
laid down in the grave to win us back.
We, who are such wayward creatures . . .
How faithful! How true!
Who is like You?

I Am the resurrection and the life.
The one who believes in me will live,
even though they die;
and whoever lives by believing in me
will never die.

The grave could not hold You!
The curse could not master You!
Our sin could not outrun You!
You have thrown wide the grave
and led the parade out!
And so, when our earthly chapter
draws to an end, hold us close, Jesus.
And just as You called to Lazarus,
call to us, Living Lord!
That we might wake to see
Your smiling face finally before us.
Until that great and glorious day,
keep us from choosing or inflicting death
upon ourselves and others.
Bring us to fullness of life!

I Am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you really know me,
you will know my Father as well.

Our great victor
over Sin, Death, and Evil,
You have been rightly given
the Name above all names.
Your Way is the only road home;
Your Truth is the best and brightest light;
Your Life is our only source and hope.
Lead us home to the Good Father, Jesus!

I Am the true vine,
and my Father is the gardener . . .
I am the vine; you are the branches.
If you remain in me, and I in you,
you will bear much fruit;
apart from me you can do nothing . . .
My command is this:
Love each other as I have loved you.

In You we have found real Life;
truer than the world,
stronger than the grave,
deeper than time.
You have adopted us,
welcoming us home with Your Son.
Reclaimed, restored, remade,
help us now to carry our portion
of Your great story:
To remain in You.
To rest by Your River and find wholeness.
To go out to pasture and call others in.
The feast has begun!

You are the LORD
We cried out for help and You saved us.
We followed You and found life.
We looked to You and met
the smiling face of the Beautiful One.
The consuming fire.
The pearl of great price.
The words of eternal life.
The music of the kingdom.
The snake-crushing king.
The lamb who was slain.
The Great I Am
who was
  and is
    and is to come.

In the good and gracious Name
of our heavenly Father,
who knows our hearts
and hears our prayers,
to You be all glory and honour,
from everlasting to everlasting.

Amen
