Midweek Mindfulness ~ Aug 30th 2023
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!
Let us take a moment to sit and rest with Jesus, the spring of living water
We offer you a song and a simple prayer

Today we meditate on Matthew 16:13-20
A simple prayer for the Rock on which it is built
"But who do you say that I am?"
. . .
Jesus looks at his friends,
searching their eyes
for understanding, for true sight.
Simon speaks up.
"You are the Messiah,
the Son of the Living God."
"Yes!" Jesus thinks,
"he begins to see at last."
All Praise to Jesus, the Christ!
Our one and only Messiah!
More than a prophet,
more than a teacher,
more than an old hero,
You are the true King of the world!
And for this recognition,
Jesus gives Simon a new name,
a new identity, and a new purpose.
But what is it?
We are so willing to build our own churches,
to take the reins and run,
to carve our own names in marble.
Just give us the go ahead, Jesus!
How we will build for you and in your name!
Child, this is my kingdom and my church.
It rises or falls at my word.
I will build it, not you.
Do you trust me?
Let me be the builder.
At least let us be the foundation!
Build on us and our broad shoulders, Jesus!
We are strong! We will hold it all
on our backs, like Atlas!
Child, I love you,
but you cannot be the rock, either.
You are not strong enough to carry it.
You are not stable enough to found it.
I Am the Rock.
Let me be your foundation.
Let us fight back Hades then!
Let us be your holy soldiers!
We will fight for you!
Child, I have already won the war,
and no swords or soldiers were needed.
We are already victorious.
All I need you to do is know me
as the Messiah,
to live in my love,
and to welcome my children home.
I name you my Beloved.
Come inside with me.
I have prepared a place for you.
Let us find rest for your soul.
